- Role: Phd Candidate

After completing medical school at the Catholic University in Leuven in 2017, I started working as a physician in the neurology department in the Maasstad hospital in Rotterdam and HMC hospital in The Hague. My PhD research at the Leiden UMC started in August 2022. My research focuses on the natural progression of Duchenne muscular dystrophy and potential outcome measures that can be used in clinical trials for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The primary focus is on the arm muscles and I perform MRI scans, measure arm strength and function, and link these outcomes to daily functioning through questionnaires. The goal is to identify an outcome measure that is both reliable and representative of daily life activities. My supervisors are dr. Erik H. Niks (pediatric neurologist, Leiden UMC) and dr. Hermien E. Kan (associate professor radiology department, Leiden UMC). I also participate as a volunteer in events for Duchenne patients, such as the Duchenne Family Picknick, Duchenne Surf Event and Duchenne Heroes.
