For patients

Every patient is entitled to the best care. With approximately 600 different neuromuscular diseases, each with a range of causes and symptoms, every neuromuscular disease center must have extensive expertise. By pooling research and knowledge, we can offer specialized care at each center, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care tailored to their individual needs.

Particularly in the case of these largely rare diseases, it is crucial that expertise is shared and that healthcare providers collaborate. The neuromuscular disease centers, under the leadership of the Dutch Center for Neuromuscular Diseases, ensure that diagnostic and care guidelines are optimized and harmonized. The patient’s voice holds an important position in this process. To develop effective and patient-centered guidelines, we work closely with the patient association Spierziekten Nederland.

On an international level, we also collaborate closely in the field of patient care. The Dutch Center for Neuromuscular Diseases actively participates in the European collaborative network for rare neuromuscular diseases. This network, known as the European Reference Network for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases (EURO-NMD), was launched in early 2017.
