My PhD research focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), an autoimmune disease with several subtypes. Diagnosing IIM can be challenging, yet an accurate diagnosis is essential for optimal patient management. A key focus of my research is to investigate the role of serological markers in diagnosis and management of IIM. Another focus is the treatment of IIM. Currently, patients are treated with high doses of prednisolone. Despite this treatment, many patients experience lasting disability, reduced quality of life, and chronic disease progression. We evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg) as an addition to the initial treatment of (juvenile) myositis. My goal is to identify the most effective treatment, ultimately improving their long-term outcomes and quality of life.
