My passion in my work as a doctor is helping people who have to live with conditions such as neuromuscular diseases to achieve the highest possible level of activity and quality of life. As a rehabilitation physician, I work together with members of the rehabilitation team—including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, psychologists, and others as needed—to reach this goal for each patient. I carry out my work as a rehabilitation physician at Adelante Zorggroep.

In my role as a professor at MUMC+, I essentially pursue the same goal by collaborating with researchers in our department to develop rehabilitation programs that can support people in this process. Key focus areas of our research include rehabilitation for chronic pain, rehabilitation to improve arm and hand function, and rehabilitation after brain injury. One specific area of interest is also research on pain in neuromuscular diseases.
