  • Role: Physician-Researcher

Even before I began studying medicine at the Academic Medical Center – University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA), my interest in neurology was already sparked. In 2017, I graduated and started working as a neurology resident at MC Slotervaart in Amsterdam. After gaining nearly a year of clinical experience, I sought to broaden my expertise in scientific research. This led me to join the ALS Center Netherlands at UMC Utrecht as a physician-researcher.

My research focuses on various factors that influence survival in individuals with ALS. I primarily investigate metabolism and weight, as well as the genetic aspects involved. ALS, along with related conditions, can occur within families, but not all genetic backgrounds have been fully identified. By exploring these factors, we aim to gain more clarity about the underlying causes of ALS.

In addition to these studies, I collaborate with my colleagues to oversee clinical trials that test the efficacy of medications for people living with ALS.
