Dr. Joost Raaphorst

  • Role: Neurologist

As a neurologist at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, I am dedicated to the study of clinical and fundamental aspects of myositis since 2019. Following a PhD in ALS and studies in myotonic dystrophy at Radboudumc, my clinical work and research has focused on myositis in Amsterdam with the aim to improve the diagnosis and treatment of IIM. Together with a great team of physicians, PhD students and pre-clinical scientists, I aim to study optimal diagnostic strategies, the best treatment options and fundamental questions regarding  antibodies, myofiber contractility, B cell compartments and nanobodies. I chair the Dutch Myositis Network, a group of physicians and patients who define research agenda’s, organize symposia, build a Dutch Myositis Registry and increase awareness for myositis. My teaching enthusiasm is reflected in a recent appointment as associate program director of the residency program Neurology at Amsterdam UMC.  Grateful for funding from Spierfonds, TKI, AFM-Telethon, Amsterdam Neuroscience, ADORE foundation.
