- Role: Physiotherapist
After completing my training as a physiotherapist, I worked at a rehabilitation center in Germany and later at ’t Roessingh Rehabilitation Center in Enschede. Since 2001, I have been working at UMC Utrecht in the Department of Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Science, and Sports.
Throughout my career, neurology has been my primary focus. At UMC Utrecht, I provide outpatient rehabilitation care for individuals with neurological conditions, which naturally includes neuromuscular diseases.
Together with the rehabilitation team, my goal is to optimize care for individuals with neuromuscular diseases and their families. The treatment is aimed at enabling patients to continue participating in society as fully as possible.
As a physiotherapist, I monitor motor functioning, assist in choosing the most suitable (mobility) aids, and encourage an active lifestyle wherever possible. I co-developed the group program “Searching for Energy,” designed for individuals with fatigue due to neuromuscular diseases. To maintain or improve physical fitness, we offer the B-FIT program, an aerobic training specifically for people with slowly progressive neuromuscular diseases.
