Dr. Yvonne Meijer-Krom
- Role: Coordinator Duchenne Center Netherlands

Yvonne Meijer-Krom studied Medical Biology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and earned her PhD in November 2006 in cardiovascular research at Leiden University. Until early 2015, she conducted postdoctoral research on Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) in the group led by Prof. S. van der Maarel. Her work focused on unraveling the underlying epigenetic mechanisms and generating and characterizing cell and mouse models. During this time, she also spent three months in S. Tapscott’s lab in Seattle to study changes in muscle development in FSHD patients.
In 2015, Yvonne transitioned to a role bridging the lab and clinical practice. She began as a trial coordinator and (registry) database manager for neuromuscular diseases in the Neurology Department under Prof. Dr. J.G.M. Verschuuren at LUMC. Since June 2017, she has served as the coordinator of Duchenne Centrum Nederland, a collaborative network that includes the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Radboudumc in Nijmegen, the Neurological Learning Disorders Center of Kempenhaeghe in Heeze, the Duchenne Parent Project patient organization, and the patient association Spierziekten Nederland.
As coordinator, Yvonne facilitates efficient collaboration to optimize care, treatment, and research for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies in the Netherlands. Her objectives include integrating care and research, ensuring effective information flow, and combining complementary skills, knowledge, and expertise to achieve better outcomes for patients.
