Dr. Janneke Hoeijmakers

Janneke Hoeijmakers studied medicine at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and completed her neurology training at Maastricht UMC+. Since the start of her training in 2010, she has been actively involved in research on painful neuropathies, working closely with Yale University (Prof. Dr. S.G. Waxman) and the Carlo Besta Institute in Milan (Prof. Dr. G. Lauria).

In 2014, she defended her doctoral thesis on the role of sodium channel mutations in patients with small fiber neuropathy. One of the articles from her thesis was awarded the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds Year Prize for the best neuromuscular article published in 2012.

Since January 1, 2016, Janneke Hoeijmakers has been working as a neurologist specializing in neuromuscular disorders at Maastricht UMC+. In addition to her research on painful neuropathies, she is also focused on myotonic dystrophy. She serves as a medical advisor for the Small Fiber Neuropathy diagnosis group at the patient association Spierziekten Nederland.
