Dr. Esther Brusse
- Role: Neurologist

After completing my medical studies at the University of Groningen, I trained as a neurologist at the Sint Elisabeth Tweesteden Hospital in Tilburg. In 2004, I began working as a staff member at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, where I completed a fellowship in neuromuscular diseases in 2006.
Since then, I have been working as a neurologist with a special focus on neuromuscular diseases within the team of the Neuromuscular Center at Erasmus MC. We provide care for patients with a wide variety of muscle and nerve disorders.
My doctoral research focused on cerebellar disorders and served as the foundation for my interest in genetics. My special attention is therefore directed toward hereditary muscle and nerve diseases. I am also affiliated with the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases at Erasmus MC, where I am involved in patient care and scientific research on Pompe disease, a hereditary muscle disorder. Additionally, I am involved with the leprosy expertise center at Erasmus MC.
Furthermore, I find it a rewarding task to impart knowledge and enthusiasm about neuromuscular diseases to students and neurology trainees, for example, through neuromuscular rotations during neurology training.
