  • Role: Neurologist in training, PhD Candidate

During my medical studies at VUmc, I developed an interest in neuromuscular diseases and scientific research, which I had the opportunity to further explore during a PhD trajectory in Utrecht. Together with colleagues, I study Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) using neuroimaging, genetics, and epidemiological data. My current project focuses on whether MRI scans of the brain in ALS patients can help predict the course of the disease. This is particularly relevant, as we currently cannot determine the order in which different muscle groups in the body will be affected after diagnosis.

Since October 1, 2017, I have been combining my research with my neurology training. This combination allows me to better understand the type of research that is truly beneficial for patients.
