My PhD research focuses on improving the treatment of myositis, an autoimmune disease with several subtypes. Currently, patients are treated with high doses of prednisolone, a potent anti-inflammatory drug. Despite this treatment, many patients experience lasting disability, reduced quality of life, and chronic disease progression.

The aim of my research is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg) as an addition to the initial treatment of myositis. To achieve this, we have designed a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) in which IVIg is added to the standard prednisolone treatment during the early phase of therapy. Except for the initial IVIg infusion, subsequent treatments will be administered at home.

Patient progress will be assessed through anamnesis, physical examinations, and questionnaires. Additionally, we will use smartwatches to measure improvements in physical activity, providing objective data on the treatment’s impact. My goal is to identify the most effective treatment for myositis patients, ultimately improving their long-term outcomes and quality of life.
